Critical Illness Cover

As the name suggests, critical illness cover is designed to pay a tax-free lump sum on diagnosis of a critical illness such as a heart attack, stroke or certain types of cancer. Each insurer who offers critical illness cover has a list of illnesses which they cover and will also state what is not included. Insurers are required by the Association of British Insurers to cover at least 23 different conditions. Many offer more than this, some even double. The insurance will be set up for a fixed length of time and at the end of the term the policy will end.

Statistics show that we are four times more likely to suffer from a serious illness than we are to die before we reach age 65. A tax free lump sum payment would take away the financial stress in what would be a very worrying time for you and your loved ones. The payment could be used to pay off your mortgage, pay for treatment or make modifications to your home if needed.

Critical illness cover can be set up as a stand alone policy or combined with life cover. As with life cover, the policy could be either on a level term basis or decreasing term.
